The Seed

The Seed.JPG

You have fallen

from a distance,

a fragment of your former self.

Like a message in a bottle,

all instructions for who

you shall become

mysteriously

encoded into your cells.

The earth opened up

And took you in.

Now cool darkness

envelopes you

It looks like nothing is happening.

Dormant.

While all around you,

a slow scurrying,

fungi, bacteria & all manner of worms

digest your life as it was,

producing rich, emboldened soil

in which to plant yourself.

Holds you tight

against the deep freeze.

Inside your casing

you are wintering

quietly alchemizing your shattered heart

in the stillness.

The ripening can only

occur when just the right

amount of pause and chill and dark

have had time to work.

An enigma unfolding,

in harmony with ancient particles of love.

There’s a sliver of grace,

a vague memory of light,

that lives at one edge of you.

You cannot see it yet,

you have no eyes,

yet you know it’s there.

For now, my love, you must rest.

Allow the fallow hole in your heart

to burrow into the loving arms

of darkness.

Do not be afraid
