One night while we were lying in bed in the dark, our window wide open to the cooling mountain breeze, we noticed a small blinking light inside the room... I immediately recognized a firefly, despite the fact that we hadn't seen any in the two weeks we'd been at Good Hope. We watched this miracle slowly move around our room until we dozed off, feeling blessed by his presence. The next morning I was pulled through the dark to my writing bench; nudged to skip meditation in my usual (warmer) spot, and as I sat down I noticed a firefly in the grass. I smiled and cried and felt flooded with grace. This is a poem of that moment.
