A prayer

A Prayer for Myself on this Holy Day of Birth

May you crawl into the soft embrace of darkness and know that when it's time to emerge you will easily find the light.

May you allow all feelings to coexist in your body and heart. It is all welcome here; the rough, the satin, the bitter, the blessings.

May you honor this day as a milestone of your soul's journey, another cycle around the sun. May you pick up the golden thread and begin to weave a new tapestry from the tangle of color that lays at your feet.

May you take a deep breath and understand that our world is uneducated about tending the soul of grief-- choose to feel the love rather than be disappointed in the form.

May you open to all you are becoming, releasing ideas of what it might look like, and be patient with the building of the bud.

May you feel the support and love of the ancestors and wise ones, the four-leggeds and the winged ones, the trees, and oceans that hold all of you with ease.

It is enough to sit quietly within your aching heart and light a candle in honor of your loss, in honor of your willingness to be willing to continue on. It is enough.
