A Letter from Hunter

This morning, high over the Rockies as I flew to Kansas City, I found this letter Hunter wrote me in 2012 when he was 12 years old. Whenever he puzzled over what to do for my birthday (when he remembered) I would say, "Write something. It's your words I treasure." This is what he wrote:

Things I Love About You.

• You always know how to lift my spirits

• You know when to comfort and when to leave me alone

• You show compassion for even the worst of people

• You taught me how to give

• You care about everybody you meet

• You push me in academics and for that I thank you

• You inspire me to be more creative

• You pushed me to do the yearbook art contest and my art

is now on the cover!

• You know how to work with tools yet put on mascara

• You make working for you fun

• You try to make me eat healthy, even though it will never

work.

• You and mommy are the best parents I could ever ask for.
